There are some holidays that just define our region:
 Evacuation Day
Only in Boston do municipal and state workers get St. Patrick's Day off - even if it is officially to commemorate the evacuation of the British from Boston.
Patriots' Day
Colonial re-creations, the running of the Boston Marathon and a Red Sox game early enough to give us hope. The Monday closest to April 19.
Dec. 31
First Night got its start in Boston and it remains the way hundreds of thousands of people welcome in the New Year.

Pity those poor people who only have one or two seasons.
