My goal is to keep this guide as up to date as possible. If you have new information about restaurants listed, or I've omitted your favorite Waltham restaurant, please let me know. Some good suggestions I've received from readers: list Kosher and Halal restaurants, list places that have brunch, note whether the restaurant delivers, or has takeout. All Waltham restaurants are now non-smoking. Reviews or other comments from readers are welcome. Contact me. sshurr@gmail.com

News and reviews
  • April 30, 2013 - The Elephant Walk's owner, Bob Perry, has announced plans to expand the restaurant from 90 to 152 seats, with an expected completion date in September, according to a post on the Brand New Watch blog.
  • March 19, 2013 - In A Pickle has announced their move to Moody Street: We'll be shutting the doors at the Main Street location starting Monday March 25. We're going to do all that we can to open the first week in April at 265 Moody Street (we still have a couple of balls still in the air). Our new location will have double the seating capacity, beer & wine, more comfortable seating, a better atmosphere and a couple of other surprises.
  • February 20, 2013 - Greg Coughlin, the owner of the future Copper House Tavern, scheduled to open in March, described the cuisine as innovative. The new restaurant is planned for 380 Winter Street, at the Best Western Hotel site that housed the Piccadilly Pub.
  • November 21, 2012 - CEO John Pepper announced that the Boloco restaurant chain was abandoning plans to open a burrito restaurant at 475 Winter Street, vacated by Wineseller of Selene several years ago. He said that delays from Waltham's Rules & Ordinance Committee were to blame for not receiving a special fast food permit nearly 2 years after they had signed a Letter of Intent.
  • November 14, 2012 - Co-owner Lou Giovanetti announced that Charcoal Guido's Pizzeria Bar opened at 482 Moody Street
  • October 30, 2012 - According to Brand New Watch, Boca Bar, next door to Sadie's, is slated to close in the next week.
  • October 19, 2012 - A story on the Brand New Watch blog reported that this was closing day for Sadie's Saloon and Eatery, known for their steak tips and wings. Owner John Ratta closed the restaurant after two decades in business. A bar called Ma's occupied the site before Sadie's opened.
  • October 5, 2012 - The Asian Grill restaurant on the corner of Moody and Crescent streets has closed. Apparently the owner of In A Pickle is renovating the site, and will move to this location and expand to open at dinner time as well as for breakfast and lunch.
  • October 5, 2012 - The Upper Crust pizzeria on Moody Street was closed as of this week. Patel Brothers grocery store may be expanding into the site.
  • September 26, 2012 - Mayor McCarthy announced the new stores and restaurants being considered for the shoppling complex planned for the former Polaroid site on Main Street. Restaurants include Starbucks, Bonefish Grill, 2Ovens, and Jake & Joe's Sports Grille.
  • August 18, 2012 - According to the website of Orange Leaf, a national frozen-yogurt chain, a new store is coming soon to 1265 Main Street, the former Polaroid location.
  • July, 2012 - Main Street Marketplace, being built at 1006 and 1022 Main Street, is slated to become the home of several new restaurants; Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Chipotle Mexican Grill, and Panera Bread. Panera's plan for a drive-thru has generated some controversy. Here is a petition for the City Council to deny the special permit for the drive-thru.
  • June, 2012 - The New Landing was closed. The site at 313 Moody Street was purchased by the Waltham Islamic Society.
  • May 5, 2012 - Bits & Bites Cafe opened at 912 Main Steet, former location of Hall of Fame Pizzeria & Wings
